ReStart Classes
ReStart classes at
the Bradley County Jail apply practical faith-based studies and group
interaction to help students develop and reinforce a mind-set
that there's more to their story. Emphasis is placed on taking
personal responsibility for past choices and behaviors, resolving
anger, practicing forgiveness toward others, developing a vision for the future and finding hope, power,
and forgiveness in an authentic personal relationship with God. As
time allows, students are educated in the areas of goal setting,
healthy relationships, and connecting with opportunities for
further life-skills development and ongoing freedom from addictions
and other life-controlling problems. The ultimate goal of
ReStart classes is to help facilitate a successful
reentry into society and to reduce the likelihood of addiction relapse
or criminal recidivism. |

Individual ReStart Coaching
"Coaching" is another term for life-skills mentoring. Individuals who are reentering society after incarceration or treatment, or those seeking help to overcome an addiction or other life-controlling problem, need at least three things for a successful restart: Vision, Commitment, and Resources. Through ReStart Coaching, students and their families are assisted in developing a new vision for the future and realistically assessing the challenges they might face in achieving their vision. A personal vision statement and short/medium-range goals are formulated. Then, when students commit to an agreed upon process, we attempt to help students make connections with the necessary resources to begin accomplishing these objectives over a reasonable period of time. These resources might include focused support groups, outpatient or inpatient treatment or recovery programs, career counseling, financial literacy education, vocational training, formal education, professional or pastoral counseling, introduction to a caring church fellowship, etc. As students progress, a personal mission statement and long term goals are developed and pursued. |

ReStart Support Groups
ReStart support groups are
open meetings for adults who desire education, inspiration,
and support in order to find and maintain freedom from addictions
and other life-controlling problems. Models utilized include,
but are not limited to, the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous
and eight principles of Celebrate Recovery. Emphasis is
placed on spiritual awareness and development, personal responsibility,
healthy relationships, forgiveness, balance, and realistic approaches
to wellness. The goal of ReStart support groups is to offer an accepting and challenging
environment with supportive relationships where the lies
that bind us can be exposed and rejected, and the
truths that set us free can be embraced and applied to
daily living. |
